Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Technical and Education Society, Nagpur is established in 1983 by our founding President Late Shri Krushnaraoji Kumbhalkar and founding Secretary Late Dr. Yogesh Kumbhalkar. The purpose of the Society is to provide educational and social developmental services to address the challenges of the underprivileged strata of the society. To empower people through quality education especially to women, youth and handicapped person. To organise awareness cam- paigns, advocate for social cause, collaborate with Central and State Government to effectively drive various social projects. To inspire and create awareness in public about the social evil practices to the common people. To promote welfare of various government schemes to the beneficiaries.
Society runs social work colleges, primary & ashram school, technical workshop for physically challenged students, senior citizen homes and many more projects to take a note for. Society has pledged to grow exponentially in coming years maximising the impact of its work and generate more employment opportunities.
Introduction and Background
As India experiences sustained periods of growth, the population will become healthier and live longer. Research indicates that 12% of India’s population will be over the age of 60 by 2030 and according to the UN Population Fund; this is expected to increase to 19.4% by 2050. Projection indi- cates there are going to be more women than men in the 60+ age group. Increased longevity has resulted in a rise of population above 80 years of age, which ac- counts for nearly 1.1 Crore people. With around 6 lakh people over the age of 100, India is expected to have the highest number of centenarians by 2050. As the number of senior citizens increase from 10.38 Crore in 2011 to an estimated 17.3 Crore in 2026 and 30 Crore in 2050 - the need for programmes for their wel- fare increases. Increase in life expectancy, coupled with nuclearization of families, dependency on others for their day-to-day maintenance and age-related difficul- ties; pose a tough challenge to the lives of elderly people. The problem gets exac- erbated for the elderly women due to higher economic dependency. In rural areas, where 70% of the elderly live, migration of younger people for economic reasons and the poor quality of medical services, leads to a grim situation, especially for those above 80 years of age. With 5.1 crore of the elderly population living below the poverty line and increasing crimes against senior citizens, the vulnerability of elderly people is unquestionable. Purpose of the project
To ensure access of 50 destitute senior citizens at Swami Vivekanand Vruddharashram(Old Age Home), Saoner to give them safe accommodation, tender love, proper care, nourishment, health service and other basic needs. Also, provide gainful employment to the working staff their as means of managing facility.
This facility is run and managed by RTM Technical and Education Society, Nagpur since 25 years now. This facility is recognised by Govt. of India & Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. This projects is run under the guideline and grant in aid by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. We are currently hosting total 50 male and female residents at the facility. The main objective of our facility is to provide safe, secure and homely environment to the elderly people. We have first class infrastructure facility with different wards for male and female elderly persons. We have round the clock staff to monitor their daily activity as well as best of primary health care facilities to ensureproper healthcare. The facility is situated at Waghmare Layout, Paliyawada Saoner-Kalmeshwar Road, Saoner District-Nagpur.
